Leon Hopper: Leader, Mentor, Friend

Rev. Dr. C. Leon Hopper, Jr.  passed away on June 19, 2016 in Seattle.  He was 89 years old. During his long and loving career, Leon served churches in Petersham, Massachusetts; Golden, Colorado; and Bellevue, Washington—where he was minister emeritus. He also served as executive director of the Liberal Religious Youth, as UUA director for ministerial education, as president of the UUMA, as a UUA trustee, as Board Chair of the Meadville Lombard Theological School, and as the first President of the Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council. In 2001, he was the recipient of UUPCC’s Cornish “Living the Mission” Award; prior to that he received the UUA’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award.

Leon’s years of creative service at all levels—parish, district, continental, international—enriched the Unitarian Universalist movement.
