Thanks to the united effort of U.S. partner churches and convocation organizers, 12 women from Transylvania and Hungary as well as three from India attended the First International U*U Women’s Convocation (Houston, TX, 2009). We asked some participants to reflect on this event:
“For me, the Houston Convocation was an emotional and a restructuring experience. An experience is like a snow globe – it needs time to resettle. Time has helped provide a lens on things, and now I can say that it strengthened my faith in the pursuit of dreams. One must dream and act for their dreams. The logo of the “Second” Convocation [held in Marosvásárhely, Transylvania in 2012] was created by a friend of mine. To this day, we refer to it as “Smart Second.” Whenever I look at that logo, I feel strengthened in the belief that we can do a lot individually for our communities, but the greatest community of all is Earth.” —Melinda Simó, psychologist, Székelyudvarhely
“The First Convocation meant a lot to me. We learned about women in admirable roles – in family and society, public life, and culture. We connected with each other, women from all over the world, learning and sharing, discussing issues and difficulties, and becoming an active part of the solution through the Global Sisters Groups. I was honored to be a member of the Second Convocation organizing team – and proud to have helped continue the work begun in Houston. The two convocations demonstrate that indeed we can make a difference: listen, accept and respect, and offer a helping hand – to improve the lives of women on Earth.” —Éva Koppándi, reflexologist, Kolozsvár
As we gather for the THIRD INTERNATIONAL U*U WOMEN’S CONVOCATION in Asilomar, California, February 16 to 19, 2017, we envision U*U women from around the world again joining IWC to weave global partnerships that enrich women’s lives. We are asking U.S. partner churches to help us make many women’s participation possible by assisting with airfare and transportation expenses to and from the Convocation for the partner church representative(s) of their choice. There are numerous ways partner churches can raise funds: drawing on the partner church committee budget; arranging for a shared plate collection; placing an announcement in the church newsletter or order of service requesting donations; or soliciting the donation of airline frequent flier miles. If you would like to sponsor a partner church delegate, please contact IWC Executive Director Zsófia Sztranyiczki at email@example.com.
Thank you for your generous support!
